Hey, it’s me again! For my film opening, a possible genre
that is being considered is action. Action is a genre in which various physical
stunts, chases, battles, and races are a major component to the story telling
aspect of the film.
Action films typically consist of a villain and hero within
the storyline. These types of films are known for dramatic fight scenes, car
chases, and various challenges. Action filled movies with scenes like these
tend to receive a male audience as men are typically drawn to violence more
than women.
According to the graph above, in 2012, 61% of people over the age of 12 indicated that their favorite movie genre to see in the movie theater was action and adventure films. This shows that people in the United States would pay, on average, $9 to see their favorite film genres in theaters.
Action films tend to contain
various dramatic close up shots, establishing shots, and sometimes point of
view shots; this is all tided together with fast paced edits. Typically action
films have multiple shots involving camera movements. An example of this would
be in the Mission Impossible-Rogue Nation
bike chase scene.
In most action films, men typically play the main role and
women are shown as a supporter or interest of the main character. Men tend to
favor action movies due to the violent, action filled scenes. Due to this, many
filmmakers tend to make their target audience consist of men between the ages of
18-25 years old.
Mission Impossible is an American spy action film produced
and starring Tom Cruise. When asked to name an action movie, multiple people
mentioned the Mission Impossible movies; this is due to the feeling created
when people watch films like this that leave them hanging on the edge of their
seat wanting more.
Avengers films are another popular choice by many. The
buildup of characters leaves fans wanting more each time. People from all
around the world enjoy the action packed films with characters they have known
since they were children.
